This article is devoted to the study of publishing and journalistic
activities of Ashurali Zohiri, a prominent representative of the Uzbek Jadid
movement, as well as his socio-political engagement. Particular attention
is paid to the enlightener’s contributions during the 1910s–1920s to the
development of the national press, printing and other cultural and educational
spheres. The study also highlights the scholar’s efforts to awaken
the nation through the press, to cultivate national consciousness and spirit
among the people, and to promote awareness of civil rights and freedoms.
The process of formation and development of the Ferghana press and the
history of newspapers are examined through the figure of Ashurali Zohiri,
with particular emphasis on his activities and legacy.
